Everyone should be doing the Vocabulary Activities for Unit 14 this week. The test will be on Friday, April 3rd.
Dear MII Parents,
Your child will be using the Vocabulary Workshop books for Spelling and Vocabulary this year. Each grade level has their own book. The first week we will be using the Vocabulary words just for spelling. The second week we will focus on Vocabulary. *Each student needs a Homework folder with pockets! It may have pictures on the front.
Week 1 Spelling activities…(They will need lined paper or a notebook for Spelling)
A. Write each of the spelling words 7 times neatly in cursive on lined paper. Please write on the correct side of the page and between the margins . Make sure the words are spaced correctly so they are easy to read and write the Unit you are on at the top of page. Due on Mondays
B. Write a sentence using each spelling word. Make sure the sentences have correct capitalization, spelling and punctuation. Please write appropriate sentences that use the spelling word correctly and reflect the words meaning. Due on Tuesdays
C. Write the spelling words 3 times each in ABC order in cursive. Note: this activity may change since the words are already in ABC order in the vocab books. Due on Wednesdays
D. Take a Practice Test. A parent, guardian or older sibling needs to give you a practice test and grade it. Then they need to sign the test after it is graded. This is to help you know what words you are struggling with and need to review again before the test.
E. Pre-Tests: Pre-Tests will usually be on Thursday unless it is a short week. If a student gets a 90% or higher they do not need to retake the test on Friday.
F. Post-Tests: Post-Tests will be on Fridays. This will be their final grade.
*We understand that some children are still mastering cursive, but we still need all the students to try their best. We will work with each child on a case by case basis.
Week 2 Vocabulary pages…
A. Read the introductory story at the beginning of each Unit. Then read each vocabulary word, the definitions, synonyms and antonyms. Lastly fill in the blank with the given Vocabulary word. Due Mondays.
B. Match the Meaning (4th and 5th)/ Completing Sentences (6th) Due on Tuesdays
C. Synonyms and Antonyms (all grades) Due on Wednesdays
D. Completing the Sentences and Word Associations (4th and 5th)/ Choosing the Right Word and Vocabulary in Context (6th) Due on Thursdays
E. Word Study and Shades of Meaning (4th and 5th)Due on Fridays
*Each student needs to log on to www.vocabularyworkshop.com and enter the Teacher Access Code (this is located on the back of the first page of their Vocabulary books towards the bottom of the page). Then they need to follow the prompts and set up an account. This is free and you will not get e-mails or ads from the company. The web site has lots of Student Online Resources: Audie of Passages, Visuals of Unit Words, Audio Glossary, Interactive Games, Practice Worksheets and more!
